the blue house

This live/work building, now affectionately known as the blue house, has a cartoon-like billboard character which communicates its function as a home and office. The front has a miniature scale, but the side addressing the main street is big in scale. Built for £300,000, the project makes innovative use of standard construction methods. The house contains a maisonette for family of three, an office and a separate apartment. The significance of the blue house as one of the most important houses built this century is widely recognised, it features prominently in numerous publications including the new edition of Pevsner's Buildings of England.

I suggest: we can be multiple. Touch your enviroment and it
will show itself as fantastic. People are unpredictable. They
are male and female at the same time. Eyes whisper sparks.

The water is the most remarkable. It carries bodies. Water is
colour. The shimmer and the deep green. My challenge is to
see the reality in a non-traditional light. When I am shooting
pictures, I have a premonition that something strange is about
to happen.

I follow the logic of colours, when I combine places, people
and objects. To me the most important quality of photography
is it´s capability to convey emotions.

I suggest: imagine the details a bit further. Who is drawing
trees in to the pond. When you touch the surface of the house
it turns out to be your companion.

I throw myself into a fictive reality in the shootings. My heart
beats wildly when I can feel the presence of surprises. When
you´re in love, but bid farewell to the channel. You forgot the
ship and it sinks. When the fall is unreachable behind the grey
sorrow.

I want to narrate feelings like in novels. The reader of images
gets a chance to handle her lost and encounters. There is a
place for danger. Did you die when you saw the shadow of the
bird?

The language is a map and draws around us, unknown and
familiar.

I believe in a single image. It breaths strong.

No not the offa's dyke borderline, which i crossed several times today. I visited Hereford photo festival today but wasn't over - inspired, i felt like i had already seen most of the images, my fault for reading too many photography magazines. Yes the Julia Fullerton Batten images look amazing 4ft wide, but I knew they would, so not much new there. I did find out the truth about tintern abbey cheese, and it's not good, i'm gonna maybe have to stop saying i like it so much, the tintern monks would not be happy. When I got back to Bristol I felt like i hadn't seen enough new stuff do decided to read lots of architecture and photography magazines in Borders. Blueprint's theme this month is 'the image of architecture' and features pinhole architectural photography and a discussion about 'photo-urbanism' should write on the fotohaus blog really...

This really is a mental note. I told my housemate Jabba about this dream and he thought I ought to write it down...

It started off at Barnfield Stables where I used to ride as a kid. In the dream I got in one saturday and found out that Amy Winehouse had brought in two new liveries. They were both black and about 15hh. One was totally mental and wouldnt let anyone in it's stable. The other one was pretty highly strung but manageable. I decided I wanted to take this one for a ride across London.

Everyone tried to dissuade me. I ignored them and set off on a slightly sketchy ride accross town. Then, like a cut to the future in the film. I suddenly found myself being led into a prison cell.

It looked alot like rochester prison (the only prison I have been in apart from Alcatraz) and I was sharing a cell with a young lad (possibly someone from primary school) although we did have our own tiny cell bedrooms. I walked into my small cell / bed with a heavy heart. I had been sentenced for 6 months - I knew I hadn't done it and I was pissed off. I walked up to the window in my cell thinking - this is the only thing I am going to see for the next six months - how awful. It was a bundle of barbed wire and a bit of rough land and sky. I looked for a while though and then I realised that the window was actually a bit like a door. I fiddled around with the edge of the bars for a while ane eventually the door opened! I felt myself tense up awaiting an alarm sounding but none did and I walked out into the afternoon sun falling on a thin strip of enclosed land.

My cell had a garden! The strip was very narrow, the same size as my bed, but long. As I walked along I got to near the bottom and on my left a view of a beautiful paddock like the one at the front of Forde Abbey in Dorset opened up. Inside I could see a couple of horses and I breathed a sigh of relief. Six months wouldn't be so bad!

I'm now on my first day of eating for 4 days - and what a relief. Managed to start projectile vomiting in the middle of an exclusive 'MC' jakes DJ set at dubplate monthly - which was pretty good as it goes.

Being ill has allowed me to make my buf selection spring '08. email and I will send a CD of the tunes that have been going round my head for the last 3 months or so. This one's been long overdue - sorry ive been so slack!

Now the CD that has got me the most excited today is the one I'm doing some photo artwork for and currently having a cheeky listen to. Dave 2562 of my obvious no.1 label tectonic, kindly took me on a rainy tour of his 'ends' in the hague last weekend to start shooting for the sleeve. The postcode area before you say anything. We caught his set at club 11 in amsterdam on the saturday alongside Mala and the one and only Peverelist (how much namedropping - sorry - but hopefully you can imagine the greatness of the music). I just want Richie Hawtin to know he needs to watch out.

Selected out of an archive of 10,000 photographs, this is a documentation of Modernist architecture in the USSR from 1922 to 1932. Pare approaches the subject matter like the Strugatsky brothers' Stalkers, making journeys into the dilapidated working class quarters of the former Soviet Republics, bargaining for passes into military-industrial sites, and returning with depictions of exquisite objects that have, no doubt, seen better days. The book is, essentially, the final meeting point of the two poles of the Soviet Modernist aesthetic--the gleaming, seamless surfaces, revolutionary optimism and technocratic zeal having long since been overtaken by weathering, their concrete cracked, their artificial, glaring paintwork faded and crumbling and the technical rhetoric shown to conceal medieval construction techniques. Yet the archaeological scale of Pare's project is equally remarkable: an entire illustrated history of a country's Modernist architecture, which easily rivaled in its formal brilliance and the totality of its scope the 'classical Modernist' (and very well upkept) German and Dutch work of the 1920s and 30s.

i got recommended an opera called the immortal hour. opera has never appealed to me but this one sounds really interesting. the opera was first performed in the glastonbury festival of the 1920s - before michael eavis was about. In it's day it was more popular than lloyd webber. I love the 1920s.

im thinking of getting involved in a film - its being made for a poetry film festival in berlin. 12 poets have written on topics related to bristol, the subject matter is grimey. it sounds like it is right up my street - a good antidote to the commercial stuff ive been doing - not that i dont enjoy that - its just pressure - itd be nice to do something that doesnt has a purpose

MCA, Adrock, and Mike D fired off a letter to KFC head honcho David Novak, asking him to follow PETA’s recommendations and eliminate the worst abuses that chickens raised and killed for KFC endure, including painful debeaking, life-long crippling, and live scalding.

If KFC treated dogs and cats the way that it treats the nearly 800 million chickens who are killed each year for its restaurants, the company would be facing felony cruelty-to-animals charges. Chickens are probably the most abused animals on Earth, enduring a lifetime of misery, and KFC has a responsibility to ensure that chickens raised for its restaurants are protected from the worst cruelties.

Encrusted with nearly 9,000 diamonds and worth £50million, one is the latest work by the notorious artist Damien Hirst.

The other is mass-produced in China and costs a mere £128.

My Gosh. There are skulls made out of diamonds, rice, lentils, sequins, pearls, beads, plastic and fabric in every high street in the country so why did the daily mail decide to pick on a piece of chinese jewellry to point out damien hirst is a rip off merchant?

Lets face it - everyone loves skulls! I love the damien hirst skull, just not the price tag, it's probably a rather unethical art buy too. Last Monday, the former Liberian strongman Charles Taylor went on trial in The Hague for war crimes in which diamond trafficking played a major role. just four days before the hirst skll was unveiled

But if coincidence, is it fair to make the link? Should every starry-eyed young couple looking for an engagement ring have to worry about how diamonds are mined in Africa? Need Hirst feel guilty that Taylor allegedly supplied weapons to gangs terrorizing Sierra Leone in the 1990s in exchange for diamonds?
